What Is LEV Commissioning?
LEV commissioning is the formal process of testing a newly installed or significantly modified local exhaust ventilation system to confirm it achieves the performance set out in its design specification. It must be completed before the system is relied upon to protect workers.
A properly commissioned system has measured data proving it captures, contains, and removes the hazardous substance as intended. Without commissioning, you have no baseline to compare future thorough examinations against, and no evidence the system was ever fit for purpose.
Why Use an Independent Commissioner?
The installing contractor will typically carry out their own commissioning. But just like healthcare ventilation validation, having the installer sign off their own work creates a conflict of interest.
