What Is LEV Thorough Examination & Testing?
Under COSHH Regulation 9, every employer who relies on local exhaust ventilation to control exposure to hazardous substances must have that system thoroughly examined and tested by a competent person at least every 14 months.
This is not a service visit or a filter change. It is a formal, structured assessment that confirms the system is still controlling the hazard it was designed to control, with measured data and a written report that is your legal evidence of compliance.
What We Examine and Test
- Capture velocity at each hood, slot, or booth opening
- Face velocity measurement (fume cupboards)
- Duct transport velocity
- Filter condition and pressure drop
- Fan performance and condition
- System integrity (ductwork, joints, dampers)
- Comparison against design/commissioning data

The 14-Month Clock

What qualifies someone to carry out LEV testing?
